Malappuram: MLA K T Jaleel has lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Department seeking a probe into the financial assets of Youth League state general secretary P K Firos, alleging that he possesses wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Jaleel claimed that a detailed inquiry would expose irregularities and accused IUML leaders of large-scale financial misconduct. He alleged that the suspected fraud in the Malappuram District Panchayat could be the largest ever reported in a local body in the country.
According to Jaleel, Firos, who has held leadership roles in the Youth League and earlier in the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) for nearly two decades, has no ancestral wealth, recorded employment, or evidence of practising law despite holding a degree. In 2011, he reportedly bought 12.5 cents of prime land, listing “business” as the funding source, though his business activities remain unclear.
Jaleel’s complaint also questions investments in a villa project named Blue Fin and alleged business links in Gulf countries. He claimed that funds raised during Youth Law campaigns, including those for victims of the Kathua and Unnao rape cases, were partly diverted through reverse hawala transactions abroad, with only ₹6 lakh reaching the families despite large collections.
The MLA further pointed to the recent arrest of Firos’s brother, P K Jubair, in a narcotics case, and demanded a probe into possible financial links between the two. “A public figure who has amassed crores in a short time must face a comprehensive investigation,” Jaleel said.
