Kollam: Kodikunnil Suresh MP alleged that the central and state governments have adopted measures that rob the cashew workers of their rights and allowances that were achieved through several protests and movements in the last fifty years. He also stated that there should be timely increase in their bonus.
He was inaugurating the protest meeting, marking the end of the vehicle march of Cashew Workers’ Congress, in front of the Cashew Development Corporation’s head office. The MP demanded to withdraw the single pension scheme that was implemented in place of the PF pension, welfare pension, widow or differently abled pension and cattle farmer pension that was introduced by the Ommen Chandy government.
Kodikunnil Suresh MP urged the government to resume the ESI super specialty treatment facility that was cancelled due to the central government’s policy as well as to ensure minimum pension for the workers who have been working in the industry for a decade.
Union general secretary Savin Sathyan presided over the meeting. KPCC general secretaries P Germias, Ezhukon Narayanan, Sooraj Ravi, union leaders S Subash, Shaji Nooranad, Kothethu Bhasuran, P Harikumar, Anu Taj, P Pratheeshkumar, Vijayarajan Pillai, Navayikulam Natarajan, KB Shahal, D Geethakrishnan, Rajeev Palathara, Ratheesh Kilithattil, Kanakadas, Biju Abraham, Raghu Kunnuvila, TR Biju, Baby John, Hariharan, Soman, Sreenivasan, Ibrahimkutty, Mukhathala Gopinathan, Pinakkal Zakir Hussain, JM Shaiju, Babu G Pattathanam, MG Jayakrishnan, O Rajan, Radhakrishnan and Reji addressed the protestors.
