Charm of Bharatapuzha revives as Nilayoram Park welcomes hundreds daily

Pattambi: EMS Nilayoram Park is fast becoming a favourite recreational spot for visitors to Pattambi, offering a tranquil view of the Bharatapuzha. Open daily from 9 AM to 9 PM, the park has seen a steady rise in footfall since its inauguration by Minister Roshy Augustine on August 11.

Managed by the Minor Irrigation Department, the entry to the park is free. Women and children make up the majority of its 400–500 daily visitors, most of whom arrive in the evenings to enjoy the riverside ambiance.

The park was developed on reclaimed land previously encroached upon, thanks to a collaborative effort by the municipality and the revenue department. A fund of ₹90 lakhs for its first phase of development was provided through the asset development fund of MLA Muhammed Muhsin.

The establishment of the park has also curbed the dumping of waste into the river and the spot has been transformed into the most sought-after riverside retreat where people slip away from the town’s bustle to unwind. A boundary wall has been constructed for the protection of both the park and the river. Grills installed along the riverside wall allow visitors to safely enjoy the beauty of the water body

Inside the park, a stone-lined footpath adds to its charm. The entrance is located near the EP Memorial building along Pattambi Kadav–Nambram Road. The park welcomes guests with decorative lamps, lush trees, flowering plants, seating areas, and a children’s play area. The children have already begun making full use of the facility.

Further enhancements of facilities are planned under the second phase of development, with an additional ₹50 lakhs allocated for construction. Once completed, the Irrigation Department is considering introducing a nominal entry fee,

Spread across 74 cents and stretching 252 meters along the riverbank, Nilayoram Park has given a facelift to the town and has also become a popular recreational spot for locals and tourists alike.
