Thaliparamba: A rusted CCTV camera pole has become a serious safety hazard for commuters waiting at one of the busiest bus stops along the National Highway here.

The danger looms at the bus stop near the Thaliparamba bus stand, where long-distance buses heading towards Kannur halt. The iron pole, weakened by rust at its base, has started to tilt, leaving both the pole and the CCTV camera above it at risk of collapsing onto unsuspecting passengers.

At present, the pole is precariously held upright only by a thin plastic rope tied to a nearby power pole. Authorities, however, seem to have turned a blind eye to the danger, especially since many of the CCTV cameras installed across the city have stopped functioning.

Over time, the base of the pole completely corroded, causing it to snap and lean towards the pedestrian pathway. In an attempt to prevent it from falling, someone tied the pole to the power pole using plastic rope.

Though the bus shelter at this location was recently dismantled for reconstruction, the rusted iron pole still remains in place. Without urgent action, the situation poses a grave risk to those waiting for buses and an accident could occur at any moment.
