Palakkad: Two residents were injured in an explosion at a house in Pudunagaram here on Thursday. The injured have been identified as Mangode natives Sharif and Shahana.

According to the Chittur fire force, the explosion was caused by a firecracker used to scare away wild boars. The room where the explosive was stored was completely destroyed, but no other injuries were reported, an officer from the Chittur fire force said.

Both the injured have been shifted to Palakkad General Hospital. “They have suffered 40 per cent burns in the incident,” a fire force officer said, adding that it is still unclear how the firecrackers detonated.

The Pudunagaram Police have launched an investigation.
