Kannur: The verses praising the Prophet resonated across the district on Friday as the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad Nabi was celebrated with devotion and grandeur. Various Mahallu committees in the district organised free meal programmes and processions as part of the festivities.
This year’s celebrations held special significance as it marked the 1,500th birth anniversary of the Prophet. A massive rally by the Sunni Coordination was organised at Valapattanam on Thursday evening. Beginning from the Ummul Khura campus, the rally was marked by spirited duff muttu, aravana muttu and scout performances.
On Friday morning, another major rally was taken out in Kannur city at 7 am. Devotees expressed added delight as the Prophet’s birth anniversary coincided not only with a Friday, a day of special reverence in Islam, but also with Thiruvonam,. This rare convergence lent the celebrations a deeper spirit of communal harmony.
