West Bengal native Malay Bhadra (56) and his son Rajeshri Bhadra (26) got trapped on the rock in the sea. Rajeshri Bhadra who is an IT professional in Bengaluru and his family had reached Thalassery for the holidays. Although Rajeshri’s mother had also accompanied them, she didn’t step into the sea. The family was staying at the beach resort near the rest house. Malay and Rajeshri Bhadra and their friend Neeladri Bhattacharjee reached the Manakka island by 2.30 pm.

The trio waded through the sea to climb atop the rocks when the water level was low during the low tide. However, the sea level suddenly began to rise, trapping them on the rock. Malay Bhadra who doesn’t know swimming slipped and fell into the sea. After rescuing him, Neelay Bhattacharjee swam to the shore and informed the local residents who swiftly alerted the fire force. Malay Bhadra was recused by the fire fore team using rope while Rajeshri swam to the shore accompanied by the fire force personnel. Malay and Rajeshri were moved to the general hospital after the duo felt physical discomfort.

Fire force station officer K Rajeevan, senior fire and rescue office KM Shiju and fire officers Salman Faris, PK Rakesh, Shidhin Raj, Ridhin and NK Rijil took part in the rescue.
