Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) which is also known as BEVCO has reported record liquor sales of ₹970.74 crore during the 12-day Onam season, marking its highest-ever collection.

According to KSBC data, sales were recorded between August 25 and September 6, reflecting a 9.34 per cent increase compared to last year’s Onam sales of ₹842.07 crore. The peak was on 4 September, Uthradam day, when liquor worth ₹137.64 crore was sold, reported PTI. This was followed by sales of ₹96.52 crore on 3 September and ₹90.43 crore on 2 September. By Uthradam, KSBC had already sold liquor worth ₹826.38 crore.

Among individual outlets, the Karunagappally store in Kollam district topped the chart on Uthradam day with ₹1.46 crore in sales. It was followed by the Kavanad Ashramam outlet in Kollam, which reported ₹1.24 crore, and the Kuttippala Edappal outlet in Malappuram, which registered ₹1.11 crore.

Kerala currently operates 278 BEVCO outlets and 155 self-service stores. All outlets remained closed on Onam day itself. Consumerfed also runs liquor stores across the state, but its Onam sales data has not yet been released.
