Former Thiruvananthapuram District Collector and PRD Director M Nandakumar passed away at a private hospital in the city on Tuesday, around 7.45 pm. The retired IAS officer’s health had deteriorated following brain surgery on May 17.
According to reports, he had undergone surgery for a 30 mm hematoma and a brain midline shift. Though he was taken off the ventilator while still in deep sleep, he was shifted back to the ICU after failing to regain consciousness. After 48 hours, doctors confirmed hypoxic injuries to the brain, though the cause remained unclear.
In June, Nandakumar’s daughter, Parvathy Nandan, filed a complaint with the Vanchiyoor police against the doctor who treated him, alleging medical negligence.
