Pulapatta: The Kalampattu workshop held at Lakshmi Narayana Saraswati Vidyamandir turned out to be a ‘colourful’ affair with students getting curious about its rich history and artistic heritage.
The kalam (form) of the fearsome Goddess Bhadrakali was drawn using natural ingredients like rice flour, charcoal and turmeric powder as well as green and red colours. It was accompanied by the rhythm of kalampattu, a kind of fold song.
The workshop led by famous kalampattu artist Kadannamanna Sreenivasan helped the students understand the nuances of this popular performing art form.
The rituals and traditions associated with kalampattu as well as the legends were explained to the students using examples.
Head master P Vijayan, school secretary PA Sajeev, Mathrusamiti, parents and teachers attended the workshop.
