Thrissur bus stand closure in Kanjani, despite completed renovations, is causing significant trouble for passengers and local businesses.

Kanjani: The private bus stand here remained closed for over a month for repair works. However, the renovation was completed 25 days ago. Yet, the bus stand still remains closed, leaving the passengers in trouble and small-time business owners in the lurch. The situation has led to protests and agitations by the opposition LDF members in the Manalur Panchayat meeting.

The opposition LDF members protested by holding up placards, alleging that by closing the bus stand during the Onam season without even prior notice, traders and passengers were put into distress.

They then walked out and staged a protest in front of the Panchayat. Ragesh Kaniyamparambil inaugurated the protest. Shani Anilkumar, Bindu Satheesh, Dharman Parathattil, and Shely Rafi delivered speeches.

The opposition alleged that despite the Panchayat President's assurance that the stand would be opened on Monday, it remained closed even by Thursday, and there is no certainty as to when it will finally open. Traders and shop-owners inside the stand were grievously affected by the dip in Onam sales.

Work on the stand, which was closed on August 12, started on the 13th. The concrete for the flooring was completed by August 25. Passengers and traders also alleged that the opening of the stand has been delayed for one and a quarter months by citing 'technical reasons'. However, the Panchayat President stated that it would be opened on Sunday, following approval from the Assistant Engineer.
