Library relocation marks a new chapter for the Charumoodu library, formerly housed in the leprosy sanatorium building.

Charumoodu: The library that functioned in the leprosy sanatorium building has been shifted to another location following a news report that appeared on Malayala Manorama. Manorama had, the other day, reported about the sanatorium and the library that has remained closed for over a decade. The report said that hundreds of reference books and ancient palm leaf manuscripts in the library were on the verge of destruction. MS Arun Kumar MLA and district collector Alex Varghese, who noticed the news report, took the initiative to find a solution.

The sanatorium authorities were urged to immediately shift the library to another location and open it for the public. The members had discussed the matter at the HMC meeting too. The books and other things from the library were moved to the office room of the old building, which is the new spot for the library, in the last two days.

MS Arun Kumar MLA inaugurated the new library in the presence of the district collector yesterday after the HMC meeting. Bharanikavu block panchayat president S Rajani, Thamarakulam panchayat president G Venu, hospital superintendent Dr PV Vidya and hospital development samiti members Prabha V Mattappally, Shivasankaran Pillai, Raheem and Chandrasekharan Pillai spoke at the event.
