Palakkad: Siblings Hima and Sreeharsh, who once chose very different academic paths, have now landed seats at two of India’s premier institutions, the IITs.

Hima, who loved science, is pursuing an MTech in Transport Systems Management at IIT Roorkee. Her brother Sreeharsh, drawn to the humanities, has joined IIT Guwahati for an MA in Development Studies.

As a child, Hima dreamt of becoming an architect. She completed her BArch at the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi, before cracking the GATE exam to enter IIT. “I started preparing for GATE while pursuing BArch, without special coaching,” she said.

Sreeharsh took a different route. After completing his BA Social Science with Economics Major at TISS Tuljapur, he cleared a special entrance test held by IIT Guwahati. “Unlike GATE, this test had 20 multiple-choice and three descriptive questions covering economics, sociology, general knowledge, and aptitude,” he explained.
