Malappuram: The authorities had planned to beautify the civil station compound by clearing the thickets and discarding the seized vehicles that were parked here. However, to the dismay of the civil station employees, seized vehicles have once again taken over the compound. More than ten vehicles including tipper lorries that were seized from the Ernad taluk are parked in the compound near the canteen.
The old vehicles were completely discarded by April 7, 2024 as part of beautifying the civil station compound. However, seized vehicles were parked on the same spot soon after. These were also removed after the issue blew into a controversy. But, a year later, vehicles seized by the revenue and the police departments are brought here.
The vehicles that were dumped here were auctioned off following complaints and grievances. The compound was then cleaned and levelled using an earthmover. Besides, this space was suitable for parking the vehicles that came to the civil station. The seized vehicles often become home to reptiles and stray dogs as it takes time to complete the formalities. Meanwhile, the civil station authorities including the employees have been urging to discard the seized vehicles from the compound.
