Thiruvananthapuram: Malayali dentistry researcher Prof Anil Sukumaran was included in the 2025 Stanford University Global Database of the Top 2 per cent of Scientists, a globally recognised ranking based on long-term research impact.
An alumnus of Government Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram, Prof Anil is currently Senior Consultant, Professor and Chairman of the Hospital Research Committee, Department of Dentistry, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar University.
The Stanford ranking uses standardised citation metrics, including a “c-score” that evaluates a researcher’s career impact through publications and citations. It categorises scholars into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
Prof Anil obtained his MDS in Periodontology from Government Dental College, followed by a PhD in Periodontics/Oral Microbiology. He has served at universities in India, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and held fellowships from the Royal College of Pathologists, London, the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow and the International College of Dentists, USA.
His research focuses on periodontal disease, systemic health links, osseointegration, regeneration, and oral microbiology. He has received several honours, including the Golden Quill Award (King Saud University) and the Dr Ratan H Doctor Memorial National Award of the Indian Dental Association.
