Edakkara: A comprehensive and sustainable development project aimed at ensuring livelihood for 500 tribal families in Pothukallu panchayat will be implemented. Jan Shikshan Sansthan will be launched with the financial aid of NABARD.
The project envisages to ensure an income of at least ₹2 lakh for each family in four years. It covers programs worth ₹5.30 crore in various fields like farming of spices like nutmeg, pepper and cardamom, medicinal herbs, vegetable farming, intercrops like ginger, turmeric and plantain as well as educational and cultural activities, value-added products from forests, water supply, protection of water bodies, nutrition drives and mental health campaigns.
₹3.67 will be provided as a financial grant by NABARD. The project will be implemented in 20 nagars in the panchayat. The meeting of the heads of various departments in the district decided to implement the program efficiently and to ensure the cooperation of the departments. Besides, the meeting also discussed ways to find a permanent solution to prevent the dropping out of tribal children from schools.
The first meeting of the executive monitoring committee was convened in Nilambur. PV Abdul Wahab MP, Aryadan Shoukath MLA, Dileep K Kainikkara, NABARD DGM Dini S Panicker, Nilambur North DFO P Dhanesh Kumar, district panchayat vice president Ismail Moothedam, Nilambur block panchayat president P Pushpavalli, Pothukallu panchayat president Vidya Rajan, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme joint program coordinator Preethi Menon, NABARD district manager M Muhammad Riyas, JSS director V Ummer Koya, ITDP project officer CE Ismail, members of the three tier panchayats and other officials attended the meeting.
