Kannur Corporation sets up two multi-level parking centres to tackle congestion

Kannur: To address the acute shortage of car parking space within the city limits, two multi-level parking centres established by the Kannur City Corporation are all set to become operational. The facilities have been established at the Independence Memorial Tomb beside Jawahar Stadium and near Peethambara Park on Bank Road.

Corporation Chairman Muslih Madathil said the parking centre near the stadium corner will be inaugurated at 10 AM on November 1. The second unit at the Prabhat Junction will also be opened within a week, he added.

The parking facility near Jawahar Stadium comprises four units spread across six floors, with space to accommodate 31 cars per floor, providing a total capacity of 124 vehicles. The facility at Peethambara Park, on the other hand, will function as a single unit across six floors, with space for 31 cars at a time.

Both projects were implemented by Adisof Technology Private Limited, a Pune-based company, under the AMRIT project at a total cost of Rs. 12.4 crore.

According to Msulih Madathil, unauthorised parking has been one of the major reasons behind the worsening traffic congestion in the city. “The lack of adequate parking space has been a persistent concern, and these new multi-level parking centres are expected to provide some relief,” he said.
