Kozhikode: Kerala Police has launched a dedicated women's safety wing under the State Women’s Cell to strengthen protection for women and children and ensure quicker access to justice. The initiative will establish women’s safety units in every police station across the state, said State Police Chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar.

Each unit will be led by a woman Sub-Inspector appointed as a Woman Safety Officer. The state-level launch was held at the Majestic Auditorium in Kozhikode, attended by senior police officers, legal experts and representatives from various fields. The Director General of Police unveiled the wing’s logo and formally issued badges to the Women Safety Officers, handing them to Sub-Inspectors Sreesitha, Tulsi and Leela.

The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Social Policing Division) Ajitha Beegum, with Additional Director General of Police S Sreejith delivering the keynote address. North Zone Inspector General Rajpal Meena and District Police Chief T Narayanan were also present.

A senior police officer confirmed that the implementation process will begin this week. “The programme was launched, and Women’s Safety Wings will start functioning in each station immediately,” the officer told Onmanorama.
