Kozhikode: In a novel initiative, the Kozhikode Corporation has launched a ‘Happiness Bus’ programme to organise free trips for senior citizens. Starting today, elderly residents from all 75 wards of the Corporation will be taken on tour on a KSRTC bus to tourist destinations within the city and nearby areas. The initiative is being launched as part of the Corporation’s Samanwaya project.
On the inaugural day, 38 senior citizens from the Poolakkadavu ward participated in the trip. Mayor Beena Philip flagged off the journey from in front of the Corporation office at 9.30 AM. In the coming days, trips will begin from the beach at 8 PM and return there by 8 PM. The itinerary includes visits to Kappad, Beypore and Kadalundi.
Standing Committee Chairperson P Divakaran stated that 38 elderly citizens from each ward, selected by senior citizen clubs and ward committees, will be included in the trips. The KSRTC bus designated for these journeys has been decorated with images of Kozhikode’s heritage landmarks, including Thali Temple, Mishkal Mosque, Mananchira CSI Church, the entrance to Mananchira Square and SK Square at Mittayi Theruvu.
