Thrissur: A 55-year-old security guard was found dead in the Kurumali River near the Karayampadam pump house at Varandarappilly on Sunday. The deceased, Mohanan, was a resident of Thekkummuri, Varandarappilly.

Residents spotted the body floating in the Thottumukham irrigation kadavu stretch of the river and alerted the Varandarappilly police. Station House Officer Manoj K N and his team reached the spot and recovered the body. As none of the residents stepped forward to enter the river, SHO Manoj waded in himself and retrieved the body.

Police said Mohanan, who worked as a security guard at a private firm in Thrissur, had left for duty on Saturday morning but did not return home. His family began searching for him when his body was found around 10 am.

The body was shifted to Puthukkad Taluk Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case of unnatural death. Further investigation is underway.
