Thiruvananthapuram: The public toilets at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital have been left unclean for several months, adding to the woes of patients visiting the OP wards, who already have to endure long queues.
The toilets near the hospital laboratory, used by visitors to various OP departments, have reportedly not been cleaned for several months. The facilities are in a deplorable state, and authorities are accused of doing little to improve the situation.
The urinals are littered with banned tobacco products, and the surrounding area is infested with houseflies and mosquitoes, emitting a foul stench. Patients and visitors are forced to leave hospital premises and use paid facilities elsewhere, as none of the public toilets have functional door hooks for privacy.
With visitors to the OP departments not allowed to enter the wards, they are unable to access the toilets inside, leaving them with no proper sanitation options.
Despite repeated complaints, authorities have turned a blind eye to the plight of these public toilets. The prolonged neglect has rendered them unsanitary, posing a serious risk of spreading infectious diseases.
