Kannur: A 37-year-old man died after being accidentally shot during a wild boar hunt in Kannur on Sunday. The deceased, Sijo from Edakkome, was an electrical worker.

According to Peringome police, the incident happened around 5.40 am in a rubber plantation near the UP School at Vellora, where Sijo and his friend Shine had gone hunting. “They were close friends and had reportedly gone hunting earlier as well. A country-made gun accidentally went off, fatally injuring Sijo,” an official told Onmanorama. "The area consists mainly of plantation land, where wild boar intrusions are common," he added.

Police reached the spot after being alerted by locals. "Sijo by that time was dead. Shine was found near the body and had not attempted to flee," the cop said. Both men were carrying country-made firearms. The inquest was completed, and the body has been sent for autopsy.

Peringome police have registered a case under Section 194 (unnatural death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and took Shine, a Gulf returnee, into custody.
