Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued an orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha with isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning. A yellow alert was issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
A yellow alert indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall of 6–11 cm in 24 hours and an orange alert denotes heavy rainfall between 11–20 cm.
According to the weather department, heavy rainfall of 7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours is very likely at isolated places in the state till November 19, and again on November 22 and 23. Squally weather with wind speeds of 35 kmph to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected along and off the south Kerala coast.
