The Wayanad Cyber Police have arrested a youth from Kozhikode for allegedly cheating several people by promising to arrange online loans through WhatsApp.

The arrested individual has been identified as Tharippoyil Muhammed Jasim (24), a native of Koduvally in Kozhikode. He was already in remand in another cyber fraud case registered under the Kakkoor police station limits.

According to the police, Jasim is wanted in similar cheating cases registered in Thiruvananthapuram, Kasaragod, Athirappilly, Kakkoor and Kambalakkad police stations.

Police said Jasim had offered a resident of Valeri near Kalpetta an online personal loan through WhatsApp. On May 22, 2025, he demanded ₹18,666 via Google Pay, claiming it was the first two instalments of the loan. After receiving the money, he stopped responding, and the resident subsequently lodged a complaint.
