Kochi: Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds, continued to lash several parts of Kerala on Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms until Wednesday, influenced by a cyclonic circulation and a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

A yellow alert has been issued for seven districts on Monday—Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam—indicating the possibility of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rainfall within 24 hours.

“squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is likely over the southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin region, and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep–Maldives area, as well as along the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Sri Lanka from November 23 to 25, 2025," reads the IMD alert.

Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea off the Kerala, Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu coasts until Tuesday due to rough conditions.

Authorities have also urged Sabarimala pilgrims to remain cautious, with light to moderate rain likely at Sannidhanam, Pampa and Nilakkal on Monday.

Meanwhile, continuous heavy showers caused waterlogging in several parts of Kochi on Sunday night. In Thaikoodam, a tree fell onto a transformer around 7 pm, snapping power lines and triggering a loud explosion, residents said. Power supply is yet to be restored along the Yakoob Sleeha service road near the Vyttila–Aroor National Highway.
