Kadukutti: Complaints have been rife that wetlands are being filled in Idappuzha region in the panchayat. The land owners are filling the wetland, ignoring the instructions of the village authorities, as everybody's focus is now on the campaign ahead of elections to the local self-government bodies.
Meanwhile, the people of the locality gathered to stop dumping sand to level the wetlands. Although sand dumping has been stalled temporarily, the people are worried that it would soon be resumed.
Earlier, the village authorities had visited the spot and stopped the levelling of the wetland following complaints from the Thanneerthada Samrakshana Samiti. However, the owners later started dumping sand and stones for levelling the same wetland.
Meanwhile, the local residents stated that they have lodged complaints with the revenue and agriculture departments.
