Alappuzha: Protests are intensifying in Muhamma over the delay in repairing a damaged pipeline of the Japan Drinking Water Project, which has been leaking for nearly two months.

The leak, located at the Coir Company Junction on the Thayimattom stretch of Kayaltheeram Road- east of Muhamma SN Junction- continues unabated. While repair work was carried out in several other sections between SN Junction and the Vembanad Lake shore, the damaged pipe here remains unattended.

Locals said that despite informing the Water Authority officials multiple times, no one has paid any attention to the issue. During pumping, water gushes out, damaging the road as well.

Compounding the issue, contaminated runoff from the road is seeping into the broken pipe, posing a potential health risk to consumers. Locals also allege that the road was tarred earlier without addressing an existing leak beneath it, worsening the current situation.
