The police on Wednesday told the District and Sessions Court, Thiruvananthapuram, that they will not arrest Congress leader Sandeep G Varier, who is accused of revealing the identity of the woman who filed the first sexual assault and forced abortion complaint against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil.

“As the prosecution has not filed the police report, we assured the court that no coercive steps would be taken against him till the next hearing,” public prosecutor Geena Kumari told Judge Nazeera S.

Police said six individuals, including Sandeep, have been booked in the case based on the survivor’s complaint.

Meanwhile, a magisterial court on Wednesday remanded orator and right-wing activist Rahul Easwar to police custody till 11 am on Thursday. The prosecutor said his custody was sought to trace his missing mobile phone. Easwar also moved a bail plea in the sessions court during the day, which will be heard on December 15. The activist was arrested on November 30.
