Thiruvananthapuram: The Special Investigation Team probing the Sabarimala gold theft has arrested former Devaswom administrative officer S Sreekumar, an accused in the case related to the theft of gold from the Dwarapalaka sculptures.

Sreekumar was the administrative officer when the gold plates were taken out of Sabarimala and later brought back. The High Court had earlier rejected Sreekumar’s bail plea. He was arrested after being summoned to the SIT office and questioned on Wednesday.

With this arrest, only former Travancore Devaswom Board secretary S Jayasree remains to be taken into custody in the case. Jayasree has approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail.
