Saraswati is a committed Harithakarma Sena member and a panchayat member too

Kattanam: S Saraswati (53) who has been elected to the Bharanikavi panchayat was quite active in her ward yesterday; but not as their elected representative but as a member of the Harithakarma Sena. Kattachira Manambadi native Saraswati says that she would work today although preparations are underway for the oath taking ceremony tomorrow.

Saraswati won with an impressive majority of votes from Kattachira south ward 16 which is reserved for scheduled caste candidates. She has been working with the Harithakarma Sena for the last six years. Saraswati took up the responsibility of her family after her husband Gopalakrishnan had passed away in 2021. Her daughter Gopika Krishnan is married and is staying at her in – laws’ house while her son G Vishnu is an autorickshaw driver. 

Saraswati got the chance to become an LDF candidate in the ward quite unexpectedly. Although she was a bit reluctant in the beginning, she said ‘yes’ when her family insisted her to give it a try. Saraswati says that she was confident that she would win as she is warm and amiable to everyone. Besides the party’s support, Saraswati enjoyed the blessings of the common people of not only her own ward but the neighbouring ward too. After winning the election, many have been urging her to give up her job as a Harithakarma Sena member. However, Saraswati says that she became a candidate only after ensuring that she would be able to do this job even if she wins. Saraswati is eager to be there for the people of her ward and help them as much as she can although she vows that she wouldn’t quit her job.
