Sabarimala: Parukuttyamma, a 102-year-old devotee of Lord Ayyappa from Moonnanakkuzhy in Meenangadi, Wayanad, radiates serene joy. Her happiness comes from fulfilling the wish to reach Sannidhanam at her age and receive darshan of Lord Ayyappa after climbing the sacred 18 holy steps.
Parukuttyamma said the darshan had infused her with renewed energy for the year ahead. She added that, with Lord Ayyappa’s blessings, she hopes to return to the temple for darshan again next year.
She arrived at Sabarimala accompanied by her son Prabhakaran, daughter-in-law Shobhana, son-in-law Gireesh Kumar, and granddaughters Avanhika and Anagha Lakshmi. Special arrangements were made to help her safely climb the 18 holy steps after IC Balakrishnan MLA contacted Travancore Devaswom Board president, K Jayakumar. The police also extended full assistance to facilitate her darshan.
Sunday’s visit marked Parukuttyamma’s third pilgrimage to Sabarimala. In 2023, at the age of 100, she made her first visit to the hill shrine. After being carried on a dolly till Sannidhanam, she climbed the 18 holy steps with the support of police officials and reached the sanctum.
