Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that justice will be ensured for the family of Ram Narayan Bhayar (31), who was allegedly tortured to death on suspicion of theft by a group of people in Palakkad.

The government will assess the issue and give adequate compensation to the family, the CM stated in a press note issued here on Monday. "Such incidents are unacceptable in a progressive society like Kerala, and everybody should exercise caution to prevent these kinds of crimes," he said.

The victim’s family, which has arrived in Kerala, is demanding ₹25 lakh compensation and registration of the case under the SC ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. They have made it clear that the body will not be accepted until their demands are met and said they would continue to stay in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Ram Narayan’s brother said the victim belonged to a Scheduled Caste community and is survived by two children. He sought immediate financial assistance for them and alleged that the family had not received any support from the state government so far.
