Edakkara: The Forest Department has stepped up action against those polluting the water sources at Nadukani Ghat. Vehicles, including lorries, are now prohibited from being parked along the ghat road to wash using water in the rivulets and waterfalls.

The move is part of the newly launched ‘Clean Nadukani Ghat’ initiative. Along the 11.5-kilometre stretch of ghat road, from Anamari to the Tamil Nadu border, there are around ten waterfalls and streams, which feed into the Karakkodan River. Recent inspections have revealed that the river’s waters are polluted.

As part of the initiative, drivers will be issued warning for the first couple of days, while multilingual boards in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada have been installed near the waterfalls to alert visitors. CCTV cameras are also being set up to strengthen monitoring.

Patrols along the ghat road section are being closely managed by Vazhikkadavu Range Forest Officer Sheriff Panolan, Deputy Range Forest Officer P Janardanan, Section Forest Officer K R Rajesh and forest guards P Vijayakumar, Vishnu, and Vilasini.
