Amballoor: The video of a commoner rendering the popular devotional song ‘Samavedam Navilunarthiya Swamiye’ beautifully has been doing the rounds on the social media lately. The video was shared by singer MG Sreekumar, appreciating the incredibly talented singer. Now, the person has been identified as Kalloor native Wilson.
MG Sreekumar has shared the video with the caption, “Samavedam on everyone’s lips; Swamy Sharanam’. Netizens were impressed by the singer who casually sang the song at the Thrikkoor panchayat office. They have been wondering who the blessed singer is while praising his impeccable control over rhythm. MG Sreekumar too was hailed by many for giving due credit for a singer who is a common man.
Parambanveetil Wilson Thomas (58) who is a native of Kalloor Athoor could learn music for only eight months. He was also a choir member of the Kalloor East and Chittissery churches. Wilson who sang in a few ganamela troupes effortlessly sings Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu songs. However, Wilson laments that not everyone could become what they dream in life. He works as a labourer to make the ends meet. That day, Wilson had gone to the panchayat office to meet Thrikkoor panchayat member Simon Nambadan. But, Simon was not there when Wilson went to the office.
While waiting at the panchayat office, some of the visitors who knew that Wilson is a singer asked him to sing. Meanwhile, the video was filmed by one of the staff members.
Wilson, who is an ardent Mohanlal fan often uses the Malayalam word ‘chumma’ (just like that) in his conversations (a dialogue from Mohanlal’s movie), earning him the moniker Chumma Wilson. When asked about the viral song, Wilson said, “I sang just casually. They say that it has become a big thing. People show me the video on their mobile phones.”
Meanwhile, Wilson is proud and happy that a singer like MG Sreekumar has shared his video. Rajita is his wife and Jimson and Justin are his children.
