Alappuzha: BJP leader Prakash Javadekar met with SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan at his residence on Sunday, amid controversy over Vellappally's comment referring to a journalist as a terrorist.
Javadekar, the BJP's state-in-charge for Kerala, visited Vellappally's residence in Kanichukulangara and held closed-door discussions with him, along with BJP state and district leaders.
"I am always happy to meet Vellappally Natesan-ji, and I am inspired by his efforts. The way he formed SNDP in the original days, when he was young at 20-25 [sic]", Javadekar told the media.
He also spoke in support of Vellappally amid the ongoing controversies involving his comment calling a journalist a terrorist. "Desperate people attack journalists," he said.
The controversy arose following a press meet in Alappuzha on Friday, during which Natesan referred to a journalist who had questioned him during his Varkala visit as a "terrorist." When asked by reporters to clarify the basis of the remark, Natesan became visibly agitated and alleged that the journalist had been sent with a clear agenda to portray him as anti-religious and anti-Muslim.
