Thiruvananthapuram: It was an emotional moment for Sherin when she held little Dhiya close to her chest, and it tugged at the heartstrings of everyone present. Sherin tried hard to control her tears and looked into the playful eyes of Dhiya. She suddenly felt that her dear daughter Aalin was staring at her.
A road accident on February 13 this year had claimed the life of Aalin Sherin Abraham, a mere three days before she was to turn 10 months old. Aalin’s parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann George, felt that her daughter should continue to live through others and decided to donate her organs.
Aalin, who donated six organs, became Kerala’s youngest organ donor and it was six-month-old Dhiya who received Aalin’s liver. Arun and Sherin reached KIMS Health hospital in Thiruvananthapuram to meet Dhiya during ‘Salabham’, a get-together of children who had undergone organ transplants.
Sherin, who suffered serious injuries in the accident in which Aalin lost her life, still finds it difficult to get up and move around. Her mother Jessy Varghese, who had also been injured in the mishap, is still bedridden. Arun belongs to Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district.
