Mananthavady: From reviving springs and recharging wells to building check dams and renovating ponds, a three-year watershed conservation drive in Thirunelli panchayat has now entered the final stage of evaluation by NABARD.
Nikhil Gaikwad, Kerala regional assistant manager of NABARD, and P Sreebalaji, consultant, visited the Mullankolly watershed area to assess the impact of various interventions carried out under the project, being implemented by the Wayanad Social Service Society with financial assistance from NABARD.
During the visit, the team held discussions with members of the watershed committee and examined project records. They also inspected various activities undertaken as part of the project, including spring conservation, well recharge, check dam construction, organic manure production, small-scale irrigation, pond renovation, poultry farming and the construction of earthen and stone bunds and water recharge pits.
Wayanad Social Service Society joint director Fr Johnny Kunnath, programme officer P A Jose, project coordinators Robin Joseph and Deepu Joseph, and watershed committee members P Sunilkumar and Chandrika Satheesh Babu accompanied the team.
