Four men have been arrested after a duty nurse and a security guard were brutally assaulted by an intoxicated gang at the Kundara Taluk Hospital in Kollam. The arrested persons, Rejin, 35, Nikhildas, 32, Alan, 32, and Sunil, 32, all hailing from Padappakkara, will be produced before a court.

The incident occurred around 8.30 pm on Sunday when the group arrived at the emergency department accompanying a friend who had sustained a head injury. Tensions escalated rapidly, and the men allegedly turned on Dhanya, a duty nurse in the emergency ward, and grabbed her by the neck and kicked her in the back.

When a security guard at the hospital rushed to Dhanya's defence, the gang turned their anger towards him, assaulting him as well. Both the nurse and the security guard sustained injuries in the scuffle and were subsequently admitted to the Kollam District Hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, outraged healthcare workers and hospital staff staged a protest dharna in front of the hospital, demanding immediate action to ensure their safety. The protestors raised several key demands, including stringent legal action against the perpetrators, the immediate establishment of a police aid post on the hospital premises, the recruitment of more security personnel, and an increase in the overall staffing levels to manage emergency situations more effectively.
