Kochi: The CPM on Friday removed Zakir Husain from the post of Kalamassery area secretary as he is the prime suspect in a case related to kidnapping and threatening a young businessman.
The decision was taken at a district secretariat meeting headed by CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. PK Mohanan will temporarily take charge as Kalamassery area secretary.
The CPM-led LDF government has also requested the court not to grant bail to Husain in the case.
Vigilance case
Meanwhile, the vigilance has registered a case against Husain for threatening a woman entrepreneur using the chief minister's name and allegedly taking Rs. 75 lakh, luxury car and jewelry from her.
DYFI unit secretary Siddique and others were arrested in this case. An anticipatory bail plea by Hussain is pending in the court.
