Achuthanandan visits family of Walayar rape victims

Palakkad: The Kerala police have arrested two more suspects in the rape and murder of two siblings in Walayar.

The police on Friday arrested the girls' mother's cousin M Madhu, 27, who is suspected to have sexually abused the girls. Sources said the police had found photos of the younger child. The other arrested person was Cherthala natvie Pradeep Kumar, 30.

Police had earlier arrested a close friend of the victims' father, Shibu, who was living their family for the past eight years. So far, police teams have arrested four people in the case.

The body of the 11-year-old girl was found hanging in her house on January 12 and the younger girl, who was nine, was found dead in a similar manner on March 4.

Achuthanandan visits bereaved family

CPM veteran VS Achuthanandan slammed the tardy probe by the Kerala police that caused a delay in the arrest of the culprits. He visited the bereaved family's home in Walayar in Palakkad on Friday and also sought adequate financial support for the victim's kin.
