Changanassery: It was supposed to be yet another simple elopement as you see in the movies. The girl had sneaked out of the textile shop where her mother and other relatives were shopping for her bridal dress. The boy had revved up his motorbike to what they thought was a happy life ever after. But they were in too much of a hurry to pay attention to a small detail - the girl’s shawl flapping by the wheel.
Before the couple crossed Changanassery’s busy Central Junction, the shawl got entangled in the bike’s wheel, pulling her off. Her boyfriend crossed the junction unaware of the fall. As he realised that his beloved was not on his bike anymore, the nervous rider himself fell from the bike.
He ran back across the junction to where his girlfriend had fallen off but the policemen and passers-by mistook him for a motorbike-born chain snatcher and treated him the way they were supposed to.
The drama unfolded when the girl’s mother and relatives hit the road in search of her. The vigilantes retreated when they realized that their victim was innocent. The police took all parties to the station, where they talked things over. The lovers were parted again.
The girl from Karukachal is supposed to be married next month. She had gone to the town to buy dresses for her wedding. Her boyfriend, who hails from South Pambadi, was waiting for her as they had planned. But destiny threw a shawl in the works.
