Over 7,700 inmates who escaped from various prisons across Nepal during the Gen Z protests have either returned voluntarily or been brought back to detention centres, authorities said on Sunday.
During the protests on September 8 and 9, a total of 14,558 prisoners had fled prisons nationwide, according to the Prison Management Department.
Ten prisoners died during clashes with security forces, while 7,735 inmates have now returned. Some came back voluntarily, while others were recaptured by authorities.
However, 6,813 prisoners remain at large, and the government has launched a nationwide hunt to apprehend them.
