Kerala Blasters failed to reach the playoffs of the ISL after finishing eighth in the league.

Kerala Blasters captain Adrian Luna said no one was proud of the club's poor performance in the recently concluded Indian Super League (ISL) season. The Blasters failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in three seasons after finishing eighth in the points table. The Blasters won just eight of their 24 matches in the league and parted ways with head coach Mikael Stahre in December.

"The season is gone; we have to forget about it. Nobody is happy about the season; nobody is proud about the season we had," Luna said in a media interaction ahead of the Super Cup.

The Blasters will play the Super Cup opener against defending champions East Bengal in Bhubaneswar on April 20. Luna said they were focused on the season-ending event, which is held in a knockout format.

"It (Super Cup) is a new competition, it is a fresh start. It is important for us that we compete.. the team is focussed about the next game," Luna said.

Catala, on trophy drought
The Super Cup will be the first competitive event for the Blasters' new head coach, David Catala. The Spaniard had joined the Blasters following the completion of ISL and has a one-year contract at the club.

The Blasters are yet to win a major trophy in ten years of existence. The club played three ISL finals, starting with the inaugural edition in 2014. When asked why a club as popular as the Blasters have yet to win a trophy, Catala said: "This is a club with a huge fan following. It means we need to do better, improve as a club, as a team.

"Maybe looking to the future to try to change things, and it is in our mind. I came here with that vision, to try to get trophies to this club. We need a process, we need a good organisation for the club and it is a matter of time. I'm sure this club is going to succeed."
