Uruguayan football legend Luis Suarez has extended his long-standing friendship with Argentine great Lionel Messi by adding him as a partner in a club he founded seven years ago in the coastal city of Ciudad de la Costa.
The club, formerly Deportivo LS, has been rebranded as Deportivo LSM, adding an ‘M’ in honour of Messi. Suarez announced the name change and the beginning of their partnership in a video message featuring Messi on social media.
"Deportivo LS, a family project, is a family dream that started in 2018. We have grown a lot with more than three thousand members and infrastructure.
"This project is the perfect place to continue sharing our vision of football. So I invited my friend to join Deportivo LSM's professional project," Suarez said about Messi’s partnership.
Deportivo LSM, which claims to focus on developing local talent and giving back to the community, is now preparing to enter professional competition in the Uruguayan fourth division, the Liga Metropolitana Amateur.
Suarez and Messi have been a spectacular duo on the pitch since their glory days with FC Barcelona in Spain. Alongside Brazilian superstar Neymar, Messi and Suarez made up the famous MSN, a fearsome attacking trident. Between 2014 and 2020, they won 13 major trophies, including four La Liga crowns.
Now Messi and Suarez play for Inter Miami in the MLS, where they have reunited with former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
