After a decade, a team from Kerala reached the final of the prestigious Subroto Cup international inter-school football tournament in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Farook Higher Secondary School in Kozhikode, sponsored by I-League side Gokulam Kerala FC, entered the final of the event's 64th edition with a 1-0 win over RMSA School, Mizoram, in the semifinal. Muhammed Ashmil scored the winner.

Farook will take on Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand, in the final on September 25. The last time a Kerala school played the Subroto Cup final was in 2014, when Malappuram-based MSP HSS qualified for the title match. MSP lost to Brazilian side Colegio Estadual Santo Antonio in the final.

Farook blanked Lakshadweep 2-0 in the quarterfinal. Before that, the Kerala side posted wins against teams from Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Meghalaya in the group stage. Farook, coached by V P Suneer, scored eight times and conceded just twice till the final.
