Farook Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode, created history by becoming the first Kerala side to win the prestigious Subroto Cup International Inter-School Football Tournament in New Delhi.
Farook defeated Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand, 2-0 in the final of the 64th edition of the competition. Malappuram-based MSP were the previous Kerala team to play the Subroto Cup final ten years ago, but they finished runners-up.
John Cena gave Farook the lead in the 20th minute with a powerful shot from just outside the box. Aadi Krishna doubled the lead in the 61st minute with yet another shot from range. This time, the goalkeeper's poor positioning allowed the striker to aim for the right bottom corner after outmuscling a defender.
Farook, supported by I-League side Gokulam Kerala, were coached by V P Suneer. The team led by Jaseem Ali scored 10 goals and conceded just two throughout the campaign.
