Three Malayalis, including two from Kerala Blasters, were released from the national men's football team preparatory camp for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup qualifiers against Singapore.
Kerala Blasters' players Mohammed Aimen and Vibin Mohanan and Jithin M S of NorthEast United were the Malayalis released from the camp in Bengaluru. Asheer Akhtar and Manvir Singh (jr) were the other players released by Head Coach Khalid Jamil on Tuesday.
Thrissur native Jithin featured prominently in the recently held CAFA Nations Cup. The event held in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan was Jamil's first assignment, and he guided the national team to a third-place finish with a thrilling shootout win over Oman.
The release of the players comes a day after veteran striker Sunil Chhetri and two other Bengaluru FC players, Rahul Bheke and Roshan Singh Naorem, were added to the camp.
India play Singapore twice next month, with the first match scheduled in Kallang, Singapore on October 9, and the return fixture in Margao on October 14.
India are yet to win a match in their third round of AFC Asia Cup qualifiers, having lost 0-1 to Hong Kong and drawn goalless with Bangladesh earlier in the campaign.
