Magnus Carlsen and his wife, Ella Malone, have welcomed their first child. The announcement was made through an Instagram story that Ella posted and was later reposted by the World No 1-ranked men’s chess player.
The post showed the newborn asleep next to Carlsen with the date September 27 2025. The couple did not reveal further details, such as the baby's gender or name. However, fans speculate that the baby is a boy, as his face was covered with a blue heart.
Social media instantly responded, joking about the "good genes" the baby may have inherited from his father. Some also went on to refer to the child as the next grandmaster. Carlsen is a five-time World Chess Champion.
The couple first made their public appearance in February 2024 during the Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge in Germany and tied the knot in January 2025 at the Holmenkollen Chapel in Oslo, Norway. They had revealed the news of their pregnancy in May 2025.
Since tying the knot, Ella has regularly accompanied Carlsen to tournaments; she even expressed how nervous she felt watching some of Carlsen's games at the recent World Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship held in New York, where Carlsen won the Rapid title.
