Kerala has some of the most pristine forests on earth and the ideal way to experience the beauty of the wild is staying in a tree house. Spending a night in a tree house enables you to not only enjoy picturesque areas at close quarters but also immerse yourself in nature.

Here are three among the top-rated tree houses in Kerala, most of which are located in tropical rainforests and are also considered among the best in South India.

Thekkady’s pride

Vanya Tree House is built in the heart of the forest in Thekkady. It is a small hut which can be reached only by travelling in a jeep. Guests are advised to arrive at the tree house before 5 pm as the area is frequented by wild animals. The tree house is a popular honeymoon destination as it offers guests a true feel of the Thekkady forest. The trip to the tree house, which is situated at an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level, involves a trek of 700 metres on foot.

However, travel to the property is now temporarily halted considering the pandemic situation.

Rainforest Tree House offers the closest view of the Athirappilly waterfalls, which is referred to as the Niagara of India. Two adult persons can stay comfortably in the tree house and guests can order great food from the resort’s in-house restaurant.

Other attractions of Rainforest Tree House include a short walk to Athirappilly falls, an interaction with the tribal folk living in Sholayar forest and trekking deep inside the rainforest.

Beauty of Munnar

Nature Zone Jungle Resort in Munnar offers five charming tree houses for guests to stay amidst the tea gardens. Nature and peace prevail in the area, where the only activity is that of some rare species of birds and butterflies.
