Two new tourist attractions have been inaugurated near the Kulamavu Dam under the initiative of the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre. The projects — a mini park at Kulamavu Dam and the Vadakkeppuzha Tourism Project — were formally opened by Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine recently.
The mini park, located along the right bank of the dam, has been developed to provide visitors with a close view of the Kulamavu Dam and the Idukki reservoir. Seating arrangements and basic amenities have been installed, allowing tourists to relax and enjoy the scenic surroundings.
Vadakkeppuzha reservoir, located near Kulamavu Dam on the Thodupuzha–Thekkady road, serves as a water storage lake for power generation. As part of the tourism project, eco-friendly, non-motorised water activities such as kayaking, pedal boating, and canoeing have been introduced at the site.
Speaking at the event, the minister said the implementation of the Vadakkeppuzha Tourism Project has fulfilled a long-standing demand of the local community. After dedicating the project to the public, he participated in a pedal boat ride on the reservoir. Authorities are also preparing for extensive celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the Moolamattom Power House's establishment.
